Getting paid is awesome

| March 19th, 2008

It’s always good to wake up to:

  1. “Heaps” of money in my account.
  2. A few “pretty cool” emails.
  3. Good tunes on behalf of Warren Ellis.
  4. A really good day… Weather wise.

Today is my 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. day at Uni so I won’t say it’s a truly good day till that’s over and I’m sitting in a comfy chair reading my feeds for the day over a cup of tea.

A little bit of research tidbitty-ness for Prosperity:

Some interesting coincidences that we should incorporate into the continuity, in my opinion.

Didn’t go out for long last night. Was with Ryan and Tim. Getting fast food and going to Timezone was infinitely better than The Craic or The Fox and Ferret (both appeared to be full of those types that tend to make you vomit while talking to). I was satisfied but mostly bored so I went home after a few games at the arcade. Ended up spending the rest of the night in my room with Jonny.

POLS 102 tutorial today. Don’t like my POLS tut. I think it’s the fact that they require you to be very ahead in all aspects of the subject. A skill I have yet to master. Maybe I’m just lazy. Probably. No, yes, I am lazy. Speaking of the tutorial… I think I have some reading to do for today… BRB!

It’s now 9:13 a.m. Just read (or skimmed) the readings for this week. One by Stalin and the other by Benedict Anderson. Both about nationalism and defining what “a nation” is. Interesting if I wasn’t half asleep. Leaving for Uni soon. I used the last of the toothpaste. Sorry.

9:20-ish. Leaving the house.

Not so fast. As I was walking out of the driveway, my bus drove straight past me. Next bus! Must remember to pause PMOG! (9:23 a.m.)

9:30 a.m. Leaving now. Ryan is watching 28 Days Later. Tim is in Roman’s room on Bebo. Hah.

It is now… 9:54 a.m. In my Political Science tutorial. About to start. Talking with James about the previous evening.

10:33 a.m. Group work. Discussing religious fundamentalists. Pretty mind numbing. It’s 10:50 a.m. now and we’re leaving. Had a talk to James again. Agreed to do something in the coming Easter holiday.

On the bus now (11:05 a.m.). Old-ish bus. Some guy who looks like Corey Delaney just got on. I laughed. A lot. In my head.

11:21 a.m. – Home for the day. Meh. Messed around till now on the computer. Work at 4 p.m.

Live from the porch

| March 17th, 2008

Thought I’d make the most of this new lappy and do stuff with it on the porch. Managing just fine with the smaller than usual keyboard. My only problem is the placement of the “1″ key where the escape key usually resides. The escape key is next to the tilde key on the “F-row”. This means that all the numbers are along one key from what I’m used to… It was difficult to get used to at first but it’s fine now. For a while there all my dates in my university notes were from the 22nd Century. Shit happens.

Today is St. Patrick’s Day. I thought I would actually be kind of festive so I slapped on a green shirt and hoodie. A few other people around campus had green on which is cool, I guess. Wonder how many of them are Irish or of Irish ancestry lolz. That reminds me of earlier today when the lovable Ryan came over. Asked me if I was hitting up a pub tonight in celebration of the holiday.

I don’t get the whole “everyone’s Irish” thing. The anglo-saxon dogs steal from us even our holidays! Jesus!

Actually, I don’t care. Imagining Ryan dressed as a leprechaun made me chuckle. Fuck.

It is now 3:44PM and I am cracking open my first beer of the day. Monteith’s Summer Ale. Very high quality beer. Will miss it when it’s not-Summer again.

At least Monteith’s Radler is a year long. That’s a good brew.

You guys got me back into King Crimson big-time. Listening to “The Power To Believe” now. It is “pretty good”.

I thought I was over prog rock!

Spencer Greene here. Just out on the “prowl”… Nearly got caught with this notebook in the food station. The fucker started falling out of my pocket in front of some cozzers. Can’t say I didn’t fucking shit myself.

Anyway, that’s not the point of this update. Trace, one of the lucky ones who managed to get through the chunnel, she’s helped me with a few contacts. Very important contacts. The kind of contacts that can supply 500+ assault rifles to citizens in very central districts of the city. The kind of contacts that get Union attention.

She approached me when I was out at an underground bar drinking with Guiseppe. Joe guessed she was looking to sell. That guy just reads people. Managed to strike a deal with her: 500 or so military grade guns for one dedicated broadnet node. Joe and I have about five of those hidden in a few factories so I jumped at the chance. Joe was against it but I managed to warm him to the concept. He has been getting a little more tolerant of the resistance lately. Not sure what Trace and her contacts want with a node. I’m not asking. They’re anti-Union. That’s enough for me.

New notebook PC

| March 13th, 2008

Got it two days ago, an ASUS Eee PC 4G 701. I’d be showing off pictures of it but my USB cable has disappeared.

So far it has been quite acceptable as: 1. a note taking alternative for lectures, 2. a mobile internet device and 3. a writing tool for when I’m lazy out on the front porch. My only problems are the smaller than I’m used to screen and the low hard disk space. I can live with the screen and the HD space is being remedied by my SD card, flash drive and 60GB iPod (trend following faggot).

The Hoyts movie theatre at the mall down the street from our flat has free wi-fi… Tempting. A good safety net if our cable ever dies here. There are a few wireless networks around here that I could access if the connection was a bit stronger. Hmm.

I’m bored.

McCourt here, broadcasting on the usual secure line has become a bit of a problem. Had to cobble together something that isn’t as secure and might be able to intercepted by someone smart. Thankfully we’re dealing with the Union. However, there is increased PACOP activity around these parts. I may be comprimised in the coming weeks if I’m not careful. Old Detsky is being a bit more sneaky than usual. It doesn’t make me feel good. As a precaution, I’m casting this from a favourite bar of mine. On that note, you never gave me that drink you owe me…

Anyway! Onto business, mate. I’ve secured several launch and cargo manifests for the skyships based in six of the sectors closest to your “in-house” HQ. There is something that is popping up in the aft cargo bay of every Ambition-class Destroyer that I’m slightly worried about. It’s big, heavy and it is named “vangard” in the manifest. Also, to give your bollocks another twist, there is non-standard ammunition stored along with “vangard”. We’re talking high fecking calibre here, Ed.

We’re dealing with the possibility of a new weapons patform similar in size and weight to a standard UMGF tank with weaponry that could tear most of our armour to ribbons quite easily.

Stay posted, will find out more.
